What's Inside Jinshu Balm

Every ingredient explained — sourced with intention, verified by lab testing

Jinshu Balm is built from two traditions: the thick, aromatic balms of classical Chinese herbal practice and the precision of modern botanical formulation. Every ingredient earns its place. Nothing is filler. Here's what's inside and why it matters.

CBD & CBG Isolate

1,500 mg CBD per jar 500 mg CBG per jar 99%+ purity isolate

CBD (cannabidiol) and CBG (cannabigerol) are non-intoxicating cannabinoids derived from US-grown hemp. We use isolate form — meaning each compound is purified to 99%+ purity, with no detectable THC. This ensures every jar delivers a consistent, verified dose.

CBG is sometimes called the "parent cannabinoid" because other cannabinoids are synthesized from its precursor acid, CBGA. While CBD has been widely studied, CBG is gaining attention in botanical and cosmetic research for its unique profile.

Every batch of Jinshu is third-party lab tested by ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories. We publish full Certificates of Analysis for every production run, covering cannabinoid potency, microbial screening, and THC compliance.

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)

PEA is a fatty acid amide naturally produced by the body. It was first identified in egg yolk and soy lecithin in the 1950s and has since been the subject of extensive scientific literature. PEA is found in many foods and is produced endogenously by cells throughout the body.

In Jinshu's formulation, PEA complements the cannabinoid profile. As a naturally occurring compound already present in the body, it adds depth to the botanical matrix without introducing synthetic or unfamiliar chemistry.

Arnica Oil

Arnica montana has been used in European herbal tradition for centuries, particularly in the alpine regions of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The flower heads are infused into carrier oils to create arnica oil, prized in traditional herbalism for topical application.

In Jinshu, arnica oil contributes to the warming profile of the Imperial Gold variant and adds botanical complexity to the base formulation. It's one of the ingredients that connects our formula to the broader tradition of herbal topicals across cultures.

Boswellia Extract

Boswellia — commonly known as frankincense — comes from the resin of Boswellia serrata trees native to India and parts of Africa. The resin has been traded along ancient routes for thousands of years and holds deep significance in Ayurvedic, Chinese, and Middle Eastern herbal traditions.

Boswellic acids, the key compounds in boswellia extract, have been a subject of modern botanical and cosmetic research. In Jinshu, boswellia extract contributes to the resinous, grounding aromatic character of the balm and complements the other traditional botanicals in the formula.

Myrrh Essential Oil

Myrrh is an aromatic resin from the Commiphora tree, used for over 3,000 years in incense, perfumery, and traditional herbal practice across Egypt, China, and the Arabian Peninsula. In Chinese herbal tradition, myrrh (mo yao) has been valued for centuries as a prized aromatic resin.

In Jinshu, myrrh essential oil contributes to the warm, resinous aromatic profile. It adds depth and complexity to the scent experience and connects the formula to its roots in ancient herbal practice.

Beta-Caryophyllene

Beta-caryophyllene (BCP) is a sesquiterpene found naturally in black pepper, cloves, rosemary, and hops. It's one of the most common terpenes in nature and is classified as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA as a food additive.

What makes BCP notable among terpenes is its growing profile in cannabinoid and cosmetic research. In Jinshu, beta-caryophyllene adds depth to the botanical profile and complements the CBD and CBG isolates.

The Sensory System: Menthol & VBE

Jinshu's signature sensory experience comes from a deliberately layered cooling-warming system. This is inspired by traditional Chinese balms that understood sensation as a form of communication between product and body.

Menthol — The Cooling Layer

Natural menthol creates a crisp cooling sensation on contact with the skin. It's the same compound that gives peppermint its characteristic chill. In Jinshu, menthol provides the initial sensory response — a clean, refreshing coolness that arrives immediately upon application.

Vanillyl Butyl Ether (VBE) — The Warming Layer

VBE is a cosmetic-grade warming agent derived from vanillin (found in vanilla beans). Unlike capsaicin (from chili peppers), VBE provides a gentle, sustained warmth without skin irritation — a slow, building warmth that follows the initial menthol cooling.

This layered approach — cool first, then warm — is the core sensory architecture of Jinshu. Different variants emphasize different parts of this spectrum: Jade Mountain Cool leans into the menthol cooling, Imperial Gold emphasizes the warming depth, and Phoenix Balance delivers both in full harmony.

The Balm Base: Beeswax, Kokum Butter & Candelilla Wax

A balm is only as good as the base that carries its key ingredients. Jinshu uses beeswax, kokum butter, and candelilla wax as the foundation of its base — chosen for skin feel, stability, and ingredient compatibility.

Beeswax

Beeswax is the primary structural wax in Jinshu's base. It gives the balm its firm, long-lasting body and creates a protective layer that holds the botanical and cannabinoid ingredients against the skin. Beeswax has been used in balms and salves for thousands of years — it's one of the oldest and most trusted ingredients in topical formulation, valued for its stability, skin compatibility, and natural origin.

Kokum Butter

Extracted from the seeds of the Garcinia indica tree native to India, kokum butter is a firm, non-greasy butter rich in stearic and oleic acids. It absorbs smoothly into skin without leaving a heavy residue. Unlike shea butter, it has a higher melting point and more neutral scent, making it ideal for formulations where the botanical and essential oil aromatics need to shine.

Candelilla Wax

Sourced from the leaves of the candelilla plant (Euphorbia cerifera) in northern Mexico, candelilla wax is a plant-derived wax that complements the beeswax in Jinshu's base. It adds a smooth, even glide to the application and helps fine-tune the balm's texture and melt point.

Transparency Is the Standard

Every batch of Jinshu Balm is independently tested and the results published. We don't hide behind proprietary blends or vague "natural ingredients" claims.
